Hyros Gap Analysis: Diagnosing Low Attribution
When we take over a Hyros account set up by another agency or the client themselves, we run a gap analysis before touching media buying. It determines whether the data is accurate enough to bid from. There are two problems to look for, in sequence.
The Gap Analysis Checks Two Things, in Order
Low Hyros attribution is almost always caused by one of two things. The order you check them matters. Checking attribution percentages before confirming revenue reconciliation produces misleading diagnostics.
Revenue in Hyros does not match actual business revenue
Check this first. Attribution percentages calculated against incomplete revenue data are not actionable and will look misleadingly acceptable even when the underlying data is wrong.
Lead attribution at the capture level is below 70%
Check this only after revenue reconciliation confirms Hyros is receiving complete data. Otherwise you are optimizing the wrong metric.

Revenue in Hyros Does Not Match Actual Business Revenue
Before looking at attribution percentages, check whether total revenue flowing into Hyros reconciles with the revenue the business is actually transacting.
If Hyros shows $200K in revenue for the month and the business collected $350K, the attribution data is built on an incomplete foundation. Even if 80% of the $200K in Hyros is attributed to a click source, that attribution only covers 46% of actual business revenue. The numbers look acceptable inside Hyros but are misleading in practice.
This discrepancy usually has one of three causes:
- The integration between the payment processor or CRM and Hyros is not sending all transaction events.
- The integration is sending events but they fail silently due to a data structure mismatch.
- Revenue channels such as renewals, upsells, and offline transactions were never included in the event stream.
We do not proceed with any bidding optimization work until this reconciliation is complete. Attribution percentages calculated against incomplete revenue data are not actionable.
The reconciliation process
Pull total revenue from source of truth
Payment processor, accounting system, or ERP for the same date range you are checking in Hyros.
Compare to Hyros revenue total
The gap between the two numbers identifies which revenue channels are missing from the Hyros event stream.
Audit every revenue channel
Verify each channel, including renewals, upsells, and offline transactions, has a corresponding event flowing into Hyros.
Confirm reconciliation before proceeding
Only after Hyros revenue matches actual business revenue within an acceptable margin do we move to checking attribution percentages.
Low Lead Attribution at the Capture Level
Once revenue reconciliation confirms Hyros is receiving complete data, check the attribution percentage at the lead capture level: what percentage of leads have click history stored in their Hyros lead record. The 70% target applies here. If fewer than 70% of leads have click history, downstream attribution for calls, SQLs, and revenue events will be proportionally below 70%.
Failure 1: the Hyros script is being blocked
Ad blockers, browser privacy settings, and certain corporate networks block third-party scripts. When the Hyros script is blocked, it cannot run, build a fingerprint, or create a lead record natively. The visitor fills out the form, the lead appears in your CRM, but Hyros has no session record and no click history to attach.
Block rates vary by audience. B2B audiences with technical users tend to be higher. In some verticals we see block rates of 15 to 20 percent, which alone would prevent reaching the 85% target without a workaround.
Solution: Implement the Hyros script through a first-party proxy, served from a subdomain of your own domain rather than directly from Hyros servers. Most ad blockers do not block first-party scripts. This single change typically adds 10 to 15 percentage points to attribution in audiences with technically sophisticated users.
Failure 2: iframe-based forms prevent lead record creation
When your lead capture form is embedded via an iframe from a third-party platform, the Hyros script on your main page runs in a different browser context than the form. It cannot read the first-party data being entered as it is submitted. Without that data, Hyros cannot create a lead record with click history attached.
This is one of the most common failures we encounter. Many popular CRM and funnel platforms serve forms through iframes by default. The form works, the lead appears in the CRM, but Hyros creates no record or an incomplete one.
Three solutions, in order of preference:
- Move the form out of the iframe entirely and host it natively on your domain. The cleanest solution when platform constraints allow.
- Server-side integration: a handler where the form submission posts lead data directly to the Hyros API along with session data captured by the main page script.
- Custom JavaScript that reads form data from the iframe context and passes it to the Hyros script on the parent page before submission completes.
What the Gap Analysis Meeting Covers
After the initial one to two weeks of data accumulation following a new Hyros deployment, we meet with the client to review the raw data and close identified gaps.
Part 1: Revenue reconciliation
We compare Hyros revenue totals to the source of truth and confirm they match within an acceptable margin. Any gaps are traced to missing event integrations and corrected before proceeding.
Part 2: Lead attribution review
We review lead attribution rates, identify which traffic sources and form placements produce unattributed leads, and implement fixes for the specific failure points we find.
Part 3: Dashboard setup
We set up the Hyros dashboard to surface the metrics that matter for media buying: cost per attributed SQL, cost per attributed revenue dollar, and ROAS by channel from Hyros data rather than platform-reported data.
Part 4: Offline conversion sync
We configure offline conversion sync to the ad channels. Only after the gap analysis is complete and attribution is at or above 70% do we consider the account ready for Hyros-driven bidding. How offline conversion sync works →
Quick Diagnostic Checklist
If you are running Hyros and something seems off, work through these checks in order before concluding there is a platform problem.
Revenue reconciliation checks
- Does Hyros total revenue match your payment processor for the same period?
- Are renewal and subscription events flowing into Hyros?
- Are upsell and cross-sell transactions included in the event stream?
- Are any offline sales channels sending events?
- Are integration webhook failures being logged and alerted?
Lead attribution checks
- Is the Hyros script loading on every page, including thank you pages?
- Is auto-tagging enabled in Google Ads?
- Are any lead capture forms inside iframes?
- Is the Hyros script loaded before other scripts that could alter page behavior?
- What percentage of leads in Hyros have click history attached?
- Is first-party proxying in place for high-block-rate audiences?
If you have worked through this checklist and attribution is still below 70%, the issue is typically a combination of factors rather than a single failure point.
Inherited Hyros Accounts vs. Accounts We Build From Scratch
When we take over a Hyros account set up by another agency or in-house, the starting attribution rate is almost never at the 70 percent threshold. The gap analysis tells us how far off they are and which failure type is responsible.
What we find in inherited accounts, since 2019:
- Starting lead attribution below 55 percent in the majority of inherited accounts.
- Revenue reconciliation gaps in over half of inherited accounts, most often missing subscription renewals or upsell transactions never wired into the integration.
- Iframe form issues are the single most frequently encountered failure point across all account types.
- Script blocking is the primary factor pushing accounts below 60 percent in B2B verticals with higher ad-blocker use.
- A combination of both failure types is more common than either in isolation.
Accounts where LGG Media handles the deployment from day one reach the 70 percent threshold within two to three weeks in most cases. The difference is not platform capability, it is implementation sequence. Revenue reconciliation is confirmed before any bidding work begins, and first-party proxying is built into the initial setup rather than retrofitted. Gap analysis is the starting point of our full Hyros implementation service.
Most common single fix by account type
| Account type | Most common gap fix | Attribution gain |
|---|---|---|
| B2B SaaS | First-party proxy for script | 10 to 18 percentage points |
| Info products / funnels | Iframe form removal or API handler | 15 to 25 percentage points |
| High-ticket services | CRM offline conversion sync | 20 to 35 percentage points |
| Subscription / SaaS | Renewal event integration | Revenue reconciliation fix |
Note: These figures are from LGG Media account records. Individual results depend on audience composition, form architecture, and CRM configuration. Accounts with multiple failure types active typically see compounded gains when all fixes are applied together.
From Gap Analysis to Production-Ready Hyros Bidding
After the gap analysis identifies the failure points, each fix has a different time cost and technical requirement. Understanding the timeline for each helps set expectations before committing to bidding changes.
Revenue reconciliation fix
Identifying missing event types is usually fast. Fix time depends on whether the integration is a native connector, middleware like Zapier or Make, or a custom API build. Native connectors can be corrected in hours; custom CRM integrations with missing event types can take several days to rebuild and validate.
First-party proxy setup
Setting up a subdomain proxy for the Hyros script requires DNS access and a short propagation window. Once live, attribution improvement shows up within 24 to 48 hours as new sessions create lead records through the proxied script.
Iframe form fix
Timeline depends heavily on which solution is used. Moving the form out of an iframe and hosting it natively is fastest when platform constraints allow. A server-side API handler is slower but cleaner for complex flows. Custom JavaScript sits between the two in speed and reliability.
Post-fix validation period
After fixes deploy, the attribution rate does not update retroactively. New sessions populate with correct data going forward. We require at least 7 days of post-fix data before treating the rate as confirmed, and 14 days before making structural bidding changes based on Hyros data.
Offline conversion sync activation
Once attribution is confirmed at 70 percent or above, we configure offline conversion sync to Google Ads and Meta. This is the point where Hyros-sourced revenue begins feeding Smart Bidding directly. We do not activate it earlier, feeding incomplete attribution to Smart Bidding before the gap analysis is closed produces worse decisions than leaving platform-native tracking in place.
Total time from gap analysis start to production-ready bidding is typically 2 to 4 weeks for accounts with one primary failure point, and 4 to 6 weeks for accounts with both revenue reconciliation gaps and lead attribution failures active at once. The validation period cannot be compressed. The fix period can be shortened with dedicated development resources. Before committing, see what Hyros costs by tracked-revenue tier.
